Argand Student Lamp - circa 1835
Translucent Prussian Blue, Red Striping

Argand Student Lamp circa 1835, Translucent Prussian Blue, Red Striping

This lamp, while not an exact reproduction, is very similar in appearance to one that is in a friend’s collection. The lamp’s base, finial, and height adjustment hardware are all cast from molds made from parts of an old Boston Lamp Company lamp. The decorative shade bracket was meticulously reproduced by taking a clay impression of the original and then working through a number of processes to develop a model from which a mold was made. The shade and burner tube are replicas of the originals, while the top and bottom pieces of the oil font are raised and swedged by hand rather than stamped as they were on the original lamp. The base of the lamp measures 5½” in diameter; overall height of the lamp is 21”.
